Quality through thick and thin

Bowers Metrology UK has announced the launch of the advanced TT-270 portable coating thickness gauge with integrated printer. Designed to withstand shop-floor use, the robust new Bowers gauge can be used across a wide range of material substrates and coatings.

The new instrument is capable of delivering accurate coating thickness readings through both Magnetic Induction (F) and Eddy Current (N) methods. When using an F Series probe, the flexible TT-270 gauge is able to measure non-magnetic coatings on ferro substrates, when an N Series probe is connected, the unit can measure non-conductive coatings on non-ferro substrates.

Employing either continuous or single measurement modes, the easy to use instrument is able to undertake rapid calculations of values including mean, minimum and standard deviation. To further speed-up inspection routines, if required, operator defined minimum and maximum limits are also able to trigger an alarm.

The TT-270’s coating thickness readings are shown on an easy to read, LED backlit display, whilst the unit is able to hold 640 readings within its internal memory. If required, data can be downloaded via the gauge’s RS-232 output. Further useful features include a low battery indicator and both manual and automatic switch off modes.

Standard TT-270 delivery includes the controller unit and integrated printer, printer paper, a substrate and calibration foil set, NiMH rechargeable batteries and a battery charger. In addition to a choice of standard F1,N1 or FN models, several optional probes are available to suit a wide range of coating thickness measurement applications
