Norbar Torque Tools officially opened its new premises at Wildmere Road, Banbury on Wednesday 19th September. The 170,000 sq ft production site is over three times the size of their present Banbury head office and factory.The expansion will mean more local employment opportunities at Norbar, which has already increased its workforce this year by 25 to 260 and plans further increases in the future. 75% of its output is exported to markets worldwide.


On Wednesday, 17th October 2012, the GTMA will once again host its  Make Measurement Matter road show. This year the event will be held in the Centre for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence (CEME), Rainham, Essex.


Renishaw, the global engineering company, will be exhibiting its range of advanced engineering technology products at Aero Engineering 2012 at the NEC, Birmingham, UK from 7 - 8 November. Visitors to hall 1 stand 707 will have the chance to see a range of Renishaw's products, including the Equator versatile gauge, and the AM250 laser melting machine.

Dr Martin Milton, the National Physical Laboratory's (NPL) Fellow in Chemical Metrology, will join the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (Bureau International des Poids et Mesures or BIPM) on 1st October 2012 as deputy director and director designate. Martin is then set to take over from present director, Dr Michael Kühne, at the start of 2013.

Hexagon's interim report for the period 1 January to 30th June 2012 sets a new record for Hexagon in terms of profit.

These are heady days, with the Olympics and Team GB showcasing how the UK can party with the best of them. I must admit to a few doubts beforehand, with  travel  and congestion one normally experiences in london being the main concern. But no, it all went swimmingly with superb organisation and much creative flair.

On 15 August 2012, the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) became one of Semta’s Recognised Training Providers. The agreement with Semta - the sector skills council for science, engineering and manufacturing – will help develop NPL’s measurement training programme to meet the changing needs of industry.


On July 25th, Renishaw's chairman, Sir David McMurtry announced record results in terms of revenue and profit for the year ended 30th June 2012.

Coming up in the TCT live show at the NEC, Birmingham is an Inspection, Digitising and Metrology Seminar. Held in association with, and chaired by, Quality Manufacturing Today magazine, the free-to-attend programme takes place on Tuesday 25th September 2012

IEMN (Institute of Electronics, Microelectronics and Nanotechnology), one of the largest technological facilities in France, and Digital Surf, provider of software solutions for surface imaging and metrology based on its Mountains Technology,  have entered into a technical cooperation agreement.
